Precious Moments, Inc. was formed in the mid 1980s, but has been around since the early 1970s (as “Jonathan & David” or “J & D”). Enesco, Corp took over the Precious Moments business until 2005, when Precious Moments, Inc took back control. Sam Butcher (one of the original founders) has two sons, who currently own the company.
The very first Precious Moments figurines were sold in 1978. The figurines have been very popular since then. Precious Moments figurines were at one time the most popular types of porcelain figurines collected (during the 1980s and 1990s).
