Martha Holcombe Root is the founder and creator of Miss Martha’s Originals figurines. The business creates decorative figurines. They have several lines of figures, including the Black History collection, the Nativity collection, and the very popular All God’s Children figurines.
Martha Holcombe Root started her business in 1980. Her pastor had asked members of the congregation to make a pledge to help repair a leaking roof in the church building. She pledged to donate 800 dollars, but she had no idea how to make the money. Soon after, she made a soft sculpture doll for fun but noticed that other people were interested in purchasing the product. She decided to place an advertisement in a craft magazine to market her product, and that is when the business took off.
The business continues to be successful today, nearly 20 years after the first figurine was sold.
