In 1939, George Zoltan Lefton left his native country of Hungary to immigrate to the United States of America. His profession was in sportswear, but his hobby of working in porcelain soon became a successful company in Chicago. Lefton had most of his products manufactured in Japan and was quite well-known for this fact. This came during a time when no other American businessmen were interested in working with the Japanese post World War II.
