Hummel fine collectibles get their names from Sister Maria Innocentia, the German nun who painted exquisite renditions of both religious figures and children. Her paintings were made into beautiful postcards – which in turn inspired a company that made porcelain figurines. The man responsible for this was Franz Goebel. He convinced Sister Maria Innocentia to let him turn her beautiful paintings into 3-D porcelain figurines. M. I. Hummel was born!
The Goebel company became synonymous with high quality. It is for this reason that other companies (Walt Disney for one!) have had the Goebel company produce their fine collectible figurines.
