A maker of porcelain items (Franz Goebel) was so impressed when he saw the beautiful paintings by a nun (Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel) that he immediately got her to agree to let him produce her artwork. Sister Maria Innocentia’s paintings depicted innocent children and religious themes/people. (The Hummel angels can be found on Hummel plates, ornaments, and figurines.)
The convent that Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel belonged to continues to play a very important part in the Hummel figurines. The convent approves the Hummels that are produced today. Perhaps this is the reason the Hummel angels are so… angelic!
