Easter Basket

The Easter basket is a big part of the Easter celebration. Everyone is familiar with the traditional Easter basket given to children and adults alike during the holiday. The basket is usually filled with a variety of sweets and toys.

The tradition concerning the basket began centuries ago. The theory is that the basket was a part of the pagan tradition. The basket was involved with celebrating the Spring Equinox. This tradition traveled across Europe and landed in the United States. Christianity now plays a larger part in Easter.

The modern tradition places much more emphasis on filling the straw baskets with chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, and stuffed animals to celebrate Easter. The long-ago pagan tradition that used the basket to celebrate the Spring Equinox is lost.
